Ladies Information

There is a history of ladies football in Monasterevan dating back to the 1970’s. The next spell of football was in the 1990’s. Then there was a move made to restart the club again in the 2000’s but it never got going. It wasn’t until a day in November 2009, that Paschal Whelan organised a meeting on the 15th November 2009. A committee of 20 was elected to restart ladies football for Monasterevan club. The executive of that first committee was chairwoman Caroline Gorry, secretary Darren Aspell, treasurer Shauna Connolly and county representative Paschal Whelan and Billy Cleary. Those people along with the rest of the committee drove the club forward in its first year and set up strong structures to ensure that there would be no fade away this time around. This committee then contacted the Kildare Ladies county board about how to set up a new club and Ber O’Hara and Tom Ryan kindly came down and spoke to the committee about what was involved.

The idea initially was to try and get an under 12 team as it was felt that this grade was where there might have been the sufficient numbers. Two registration days were then held for new players and it was then evident that there would be numbers to field U10’s, U12’s, U14’s and perhaps most surprising an adult ladies team.

In 2010 there were about 70-80 ladies members and this has been maintained for 2011. The club now looks to bring back silverware within its 2nd year. As we carry out the work at ground level and bring it onto our playing fields through the success of our underage teams who are now competing at U10’s, U12’s and U14’s for the club. Without any doubt we will see these girls and our ladies adult team competing in finals in the near future.

Currently our club have girls represented at U12’s inter county level with the hope in the coming future we will see more of our girls representing Kildare at all levels.
